Born and raised in Philadelphia, there was no doubting Leonard’s football talent from an early age. He starred as a running back for his middle school football team before moving onto defensive back for high school. After recording 106 tackles and five interceptions as a junior, Leonard was selected by Penn State as a top recruit in the nation.
A dominant defender for Penn State, Leonard led the team in total tackles each of his final two seasons, earning First Team All-America honors both times. He also finished second on the Nittany Lions’ all-time list with 176 tackles and 11 interceptions over his three years at Penn State.

He played high school football at Hilliard Davidson High School where he was a two-time all-state selection and was named to the USA Today All-USA first team as a senior.
Leonard attended the University of Michigan where he played for the Michigan Wolverines football team from 2013 to 2016. As a sophomore, Leonard started all 13 games at defensive end and finished third on the team with six sacks. In his final year at Michigan, he started all 12 games at defensive end and was named first-team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and media members. He also led the team with 14 tackles for loss and ranked second in tackles for loss (32) and sacks (14).
After completing his collegiate career, Leonard entered the 2017 NFL Draft where he was selected by Seattle Seahawks in the sixth round with 164th overall pick.
